Backing up your Database/Website

If you have just a website with no MySQL database (aka a forum usually) you need a Directory Backup. If you have a forum or MySQL Database you will need a Database Backup. If you have both, obviously you will need both.

Directory Backup

This one is pretty easy. Simply login into FTP (use this tutorial to learn about that) and simply highlight every folder and drag it to your Desktop. This is all you need to do. Think of the directory backup as the body of the website, and the Database as the brain.

Database Backup

1. Login into cpanel and under Databases find "PhpMyAdmin"

2. On the left, click your database name. Mine would be laughinginc_mybb

3. On the top, click Export.

4. Click "Select All" then simply hit "Go" at the bottom

You're done! Backing up is very important and you should do it very often just incase something goes wrong. Don't learn the hard way, trust me.

Can't you just bakup the db by logging in to the admincp in mybb

What about backing up with main directory with all your files and such. I know how to do it personally but I think you should add this to the tutorial.

A note that if your forum has a ton of posts you might need to do the posts table separately.
